General information

Seal and guide elements produced by Kofler-Dichtungen can be roughly divided into the following groups of high polymer materials: Elastomers (NBR, FPM, MVQ, H-NBR, EPDM) Thermoplasts (PTFE, POM, PA, PE) Thermoplastic elastomers (T-PU, TPE)

Products made of the above mentioned materials may change their characteristics when subject to adverse storage conditions or improper handling. Influences to be avoided are, for example, UV rays, oxygen, ozone, heat, moisture, solvents or mechanical stress.

In order to maintain their combination of characteristics during storage, we recommend the following environmental parameters for the above mentioned group of products:

Temperature, Humidity & Light

Minimum temperature: + 5°C
Maximum temperature: + 25°C

Heat sources such as radiators and their supply lines in the storage area should be shielded and there should be a distance of at least 1 m to the stored products. Frequent fluctuations in temperature should also be avoided.

Humidity: An atmospheric humidity of around 65% is ideal. Significantly higher values are particularly damaging.

Light: Exposure to UV rays most notably damages thermoplasts and thermoplastic elastomers. We therefore recommend to keep storage rooms dark, or to store the products in opaque containers.

Atmosphere & Cleaning

Solvents, fluids, lubricants, acids, disinfectants and other chemicals should not be stored along with seals and guide elements. Escaping fumes accumulate on their surfaces and can cause damage. Appliances which contain seal and guide elements may be treated only with preservatives which are compatible with all used seal materials. Also, take care that these materials do not absorb atmospheric humidity.

If cleaning is necessary, we recommend using a soft cloth and lukewarm water. Solvents, gasoline, turpentine, lyes and so on must not be used.
